Every family is a story

Memories go with the people who hold them.
When we’re young, we don’t always listen to the stories our parents and grandparents tell us. We think there will be time. Then we grow older, ready to understand them, and there may be no one left to ask.
Saga will help you keep those stories until someone wants to hear them. And if the stories are yours to tell, you’ll be able to record them in your own voice for the people who come after you.
Start where you are.
Import a family tree from another service, add relatives one at a time, or begin with your own story. Then invite the whole family to share what they remember through a simple link and a few questions.
Pets are family, too.
Saga will place cats, dogs, and horses on the same timeline as the people they lived with.
Genealogy in a new format.
Saga’s format extends traditional genealogy with richer relationships, personal narratives, genograms, and pet pedigrees.
Yours, wherever it goes.
What you add will live on your iPhone or iPad and in your iCloud, and only you will decide who sees it. No account will be needed to start. The saga can leave as a file.
Some things are meant to stay private.
Saga will keep medical records, identity documents, and personal notes in a space of their own, and none of it will reach the family’s saga until you share it.
Questions
What is Saga?
Saga is a family-history app in development for iPhone and iPad. It will place your family tree, relatives’ recorded stories, and your documents on one timeline.
Why a new genealogy format?
The file format that genealogy programs share was built around names, dates, places, and who was whose parent. Saga’s format keeps all of that, and adds what that format was never built to hold: the animals of the household, and leads that turned out wrong, kept with the reason, so nobody repeats the research. A recorded story becomes part of the saga itself, transcribed and attached to the people it’s about. Saga will still export your tree to the standard format.
Can my family see it?
Relatives will be able to join your family’s saga with family accounts from launch and add what they know. If a relative would rather look first, you’ll be able to send them a copy to read in the app on their iPhone or iPad, and they’ll be able to start their own saga from there.
When will it launch, and where?
Saga will launch in the first quarter of 2027, on iPhone and iPad. An Android version is planned for later. Leave your email for early access, and we’ll tell you when it’s ready. In the same form, you can volunteer for a short interview or to test early versions.
Will it work for my family’s traditions?
From launch, Saga is built to support every kinship system and the naming and family traditions of every region. It will tell you what to call a relative in the kinship terms of the system you use, such as third cousin once removed. Dates will be kept as the source gives them, and dates in the Julian, Hebrew, or French Republican calendar will show the Gregorian date beside them.
